May 22, 2017

This has past week was such a fun spirit/ Spring Fling week! Each day the 4th Graders showed their school spirit and creativity dressing up in some great costumes. Thank you so very much for sending Grandparents and Special Friends to school last Thursday. It was a pleasure to see some familiar faces from a few years ago and to meet Grandparents I hadn't met yet. It was wonderful to chat about the wonderful 4th Graders with them! I made a little slideshow of our Thursday guests.

It is amazing how quickly this year has gone by! We are coming into the home stretch of 4th grade with the end of the year nearing. In Social Studies, we will finish this year with each student will choose a group to work with in researching a region of Oregon. The students have been reviewing what they know about poetry and learning some new terms as well as diving deep into the meaning and purpose of poems.  In Math, the 4th graders will continue working with fractions and be introduced to decimals as we close the year. Our religion studies have concentrated on the Gifts of the Holy spirit with a visit from Father Mike this past week to deepen understanding of this important mystery of our faith. The 4th graders have been getting ready in music class for our big show on Tuesday, Go West! at 2:00 pm. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Blessings,

April Showers in 4th

This week was a very fun week. On Wednesday, we wrote our last journal entry from the perspective of a person on the Oregon Trail. Then, we finished our persuasive essays on our National Parks. We are making them into videos. Also on Thursday, we had extra time in art to make paper mache pieces of cake. They are inspired by pop artist Wayne Thiebaud Finally on Friday, we had a popcorn and movie party! We won it at the auction. This week was lots of fun!

This week was busy wrapping up our Oregon Trail adventures! We have moved on in Social Studies to how Oregon becomes a state. The students worked in groups to read and discuss the challenges the early setters of Oregon faced. I heard some great discussions and ideas floating around.

We got a treat on Monday as the students in band showed us their amazing talent!

Onward to May and then we will slide into June. Unbelievable this year is winding down! We will be packing in some awesome learning in these last weeks of school. Thank you for your continued support.

God Bless,
Jenn
