This week in science we learned about volcanoes. One day we mapped the ring of fire and realized that all the volcanoes are on the coastline. Next, we did research on a volcano and created a poster. When we were done with the poster, we shared it with the class. In math this week, we reviewed greater than and less than. The activity we did was very fun; we made little pockets in our math notebooks and did problems and put them in the greater than or less than pockets. This week we did a lot of amazing things!

This week Father Mike and Maddy came to visit the Fourth Grade class. Father talked about the creation of the world and Adam and Eve. Since we are in Fourth Grade, it's our job to raise the flag. Sometimes everyone gathers in the classroom and watch the color guard raise the flag. It looks like  a fun job! Another thing we do in Fourth Grade is we read a book called Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo and it's really good; I recommend it!

As Caitlin mentioned above, this week in science we started our unit on geology which we’re calling “The Birth of Rocks.” We learned about volcanoes and where they exist in the world. Below I’ve included a link to some amazing pictures of active volcanoes. Show these to your child; it’s guaranteed to be a conversation starter about what they learned!

Here is a message from our 7th grade class about next weeks school-wide service project:

St. Vincent DePaul Food Drive

This Thursday 7th grade is leading our school Mass which will celebrate Saint Vincent De Paul. St. Vincent DePaul was committed to serving the marginalized. Our parish St. Vincent DePaul Society follows his model of serving the poor. We invite students to bring in non-perishable food to their classrooms by Thursday to help refill our parish’s St. Vincent DePaul food pantry.

Thank you!

2nd Week of School!

This week we did a lot of math (place value) and social studies (9-11). We've done some religion too. We have also been reading Because of Winn Dixie for English. This week everyone made a Chatterpix about their book that they read over the summer. We also made a Chatterpix to tell our parents about 4th grade for back to school night. On Wednesday, we went to the science lab and tried to build a tall free standing structure out of: 7 marshmallows, 1 large marshmallow, 20 raw spaghetti sticks and 2 feel of tape. See ya next week! ~ Beckett

This week we went to the science lab to study engineering. Ms. Yuhas helped our by letting us use her supplies and the lab. We worked in groups of three. We talked about what we thought was a good and agreed. Then we sketched and designed an idea. Then we built it!  ~ Charlotte
